Bringing Your Vision to Life: The Art of the Commission
There is something deeply personal about owning a piece of art created just for you. Whether it’s a portrait of a beloved pet, a celebration of a milestone, or a custom piece designed to fit a specific nook in your home, a commission is more than just a purchase—it’s a collaboration.
I specialize in turning those "I wish I had a painting of..." thoughts into tangible reality. Here is a look at how we can work together to create your next favorite piece.
What Can You Commission?
My work spans from traditional painting to detailed realistic graphite. While I open toexploring new ideas, most clients reach out for:
Custom Portraits: From expressive solo portraits that capture a person’s unique spirit, to capturing a photograph of a dearly loved pet in a personal new light.
Nature-Inspired Scenes: Reimagining a valued photograph of a favorite vacation, or a decorative piece from a specific style.
Milestone Commemorations: Anniversary gifts, new home celebrations, or "just because" pieces that capture a specific memory.
The Collaborative Journey
I aim to make the process as seamless and joyful as possible with emphasis on a piece that will be personal to you or as a gift for someone else. Here is the step-by-step path we’ll take:
The Initial Spark: We start with a conversation. You share your ideas, preferred colors, and any reference photos you have. We’ll discuss the size and feel of the piece to ensure it fits your vision and your space. Sometimes photographs do not always allow for exact transcription into a specific medium or style, but we will work together to ensure every possibility to do so.
Sketch & Concept: Before I dive into the artwork’s details, I’ll share a rough concept or sketch. This is our "check-in" to make sure the composition and mood are heading in the right direction.
The Making: This is where the magic happens! I’ll work the desired medium to build the piece to create your desired artwork.
Final Reveal & Delivery: Once finished, I’ll send a high-quality photo for your final approval. Then, your custom artwork is carefully packaged and shipped from my studio to its new home.
Why Choose a Commission?
A commissioned piece allows you to be part of the creative story. It ensures the colors harmonize with your interior and the subject matter resonates with your personal tastes. In commissioning a piece of art as a gift, you are telling the receiver that they mean just that much more to you. This type of personal gift is very unique and deeply personal.
Ready to start?
I typically advise to book commission slots a few months in advance of when the piece is needed to ensure every piece gets the attention it deserves. If you have an idea—no matter how small or "out there"—I’d love to hear it. I work with a variety of mediums, sizes, and budgets.
